A message from our CEO, Luanne Welch

The people of Easterseals PORT Health ARE Easterseals PORT Health.
Three words come to mind when describing the people & organization I love & serve: Courage, Compassion & Care.
We demonstrate courage every time we change, grow & do more. As the needs of those we support change, WE change. We don’t always get it right the first time, but we grow together by asking thoughtful questions, listening with humility & respect, and moving forward from our mistakes.
We lead & serve with compassion. Fostering empathy & resilience within our team, our clients & communities. We meet people where they are & move forward together.
We care about the people we support & each other – the whole person. We care all the time – 24/7 – not just during the workday. We face challenges head-on & find solutions – together. We will continue to find ways to show up for the people who count on us every day.
Our courage, compassion & care fuel our commitment to be better & do better. We are dedicated to the IDEAL principles of Inclusive Culture, Different Voices, Embracing Potential, Authentic Self and Learning & Growing.
At the heart of ESPH is a resilient, sustainable, healthy, purpose-driven organization that is & will be here – day now & forward.
That’s who we are. That’s what we do. I invite you to join us!

Ebonie shares, “Breast Cancer Awareness is important to me because my mother lost her battle five years ago on October 29. My mother was, and still is, the sunshine in my life. My first cousin was also diagnosed two months ago with stage 3 breast cancer, so I’m wearing my shirt for her this year as well."

Our team members are wearing pink throughout October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month ❤️
Ann, the Office Manager for VA REACH (Virginia Regional Education Assessment Crisis Services Habilitation), is proudly sporting her pink shirt and shares:
"Breast Cancer Awareness Month is important to me because I have friends who passed away from breast cancer. My mom is a breast cancer survivor, and I supported her through her diagnosis and treatment. Breast cancer awareness gives people the freedom to share their experiences, support one another and honor those we’ve lost.”
Every pink shirt is a symbol of hope, strength and unity in the fight against breast cancer.

Stop Bullying! 💜 October is National Bullying Prevention Month. To highlight its importance, we’re throwing it back to our Bullying Prevention Summer Camp hosted by our Prevention Team!
The camp focused on helping youth understand and process the emotions that come from being bullied while supporting their overall wellbeing. Through activities like drawing and games, children explored their feelings in a safe and fun environment.
Together, we can build a kinder and more supportive community!

Red Ribbon Week is here! ❤️
From October 23–31, Easterseals PORT Health will join the national effort to prevent drug use and violence as part of National Substance Use Prevention Month.
This year’s theme, “Life is a Puzzle: Solve it Drug Free,” highlights how every choice we make fits into the bigger picture - just like a puzzle coming together. It’s a reminder that living drug free helps build a stronger, brighter future, one piece at a time.
Last year, Easterseals PORT Health’s Prevention team provided educational materials, resources and interactive activities for young people across Wilson, Edgecombe and Nash counties in North Carolina. Many students signed their names on red hand cut-outs and pledged to be safe, be kind and drug free (pictured).
Easterseals PORT Health’s Prevention team helps raise awareness, promote healthy choices and empower people to make safe, positive decisions.
