A message from our CEO, Luanne Welch
The people of Easterseals PORT Health ARE Easterseals PORT Health.
Three words come to mind when describing the people & organization I love & serve: Courage, Compassion & Care.
We demonstrate courage every time we change, grow & do more. As the needs of those we support change, WE change. We don’t always get it right the first time, but we grow together by asking thoughtful questions, listening with humility & respect, and moving forward from our mistakes.
We lead & serve with compassion. Fostering empathy & resilience within our team, our clients & communities. We meet people where they are & move forward together.
We care about the people we support & each other – the whole person. We care all the time – 24/7 – not just during the workday. We face challenges head-on & find solutions – together. We will continue to find ways to show up for the people who count on us every day.
Our courage, compassion & care fuel our commitment to be better & do better. We are dedicated to the IDEAL principles of Inclusive Culture, Different Voices, Embracing Potential, Authentic Self and Learning & Growing.
At the heart of ESPH is a resilient, sustainable, healthy, purpose-driven organization that is & will be here – day now & forward.
That’s who we are. That’s what we do. I invite you to join us!

July is Disability Pride Month💙 It’s a time to celebrate the contributions, strength and individuality of people with disabilities and the Americans with Disability Act (ADA). This year, we are proud to spotlight Lavorois, a dedicated Facilities Assistant at our Charlotte, NC office!
Lavorois loves bowling and recently won a silver medal at the Special Olympics after years of practice! He experienced a traumatic brain injury (TBI) as a child and shares, “I am so much more than my TBI. People shouldn’t place limits on those with disabilities."

🚨 The Senate just passed a budget bill with $930 BILLION in Medicaid cuts — putting services for people with disabilities at serious risk.
These cuts will squeeze state budgets, force scarce resources and services to compete and result in fewer services and longer waitlists for people who need them most. People with disabilities will face serious challenges accessing care, jobs, transportation and other essential supports.
🛑 But the fight to Protect Medicaid isn’t over! The House still has a chance to act. Some House Republicans have already raised concerns — and now’s the time to raise YOUR voice.
Contact your Representative today and urge them to oppose the Senate’s harmful Medicaid cuts using the link in our bio!

June is National Camping Month! 🏕️
In honor of this month, we’re shining a light on the incredible experiences made possible through Camp Easterseals Virginia, where individuals of all ages and abilities can explore the great outdoors, make lifelong friends and discover their full potential.
Tajai (pictured) has been attending camp in New Castle, VA since 2020! His mother, Ramona, shared how much camp has meant to both Tajai and their family. “It’s hard to say what he enjoys most, he loves everything about it,” Ramona says. “The horses, the moose, his counselors, fellow campers and especially painting. When he comes home, he tells the stories behind each painting he created at camp.”
