November is National Adoption Awareness Month. Easterseals PORT Health is proud to celebrate forever families formed through our Foster Care and Child Placement program. We are also honoring the children still waiting for their forever home.
For Tabatha and Chris, Adoption Awareness Month is a reminder of how important it is to give adopted children understanding and support. “This month highlights the need for permanent, loving homes. It also celebrates the unique journeys of families created through adoption. One of the most rewarding parts of adoption is seeing children flourish when they receive the right support. It’s amazing to watch them relax, feel safe and just be kids!”
Throughout their journey, Tabatha and Chris believe Easterseals PORT Health has been a steady source of support. “The staff is always ready to help, no matter the time of day,” they shared. “Whenever an issue comes up, they listen, offer guidance and connect families with the right services. They let us vent, provide therapy and conduct weekly visits while also sharing valuable resources.”
ESPH’s Foster Care and Child Placement program also hosts family meetups, giving children a chance to play together and families a chance to share experiences. “Along with ongoing training, support sessions and guidance through court dates and transitions, these meetups make the process much easier,” Tabatha said. “Their support has made a real difference for our whole family.”
For families thinking about foster care or adoption, Tabatha and Chris offer encouraging advice. “It’s one of the most challenging, yet rewarding, experiences you’ll ever have. Every child deserves a safe, loving place to grow and you have the chance to be that for them. Fostering takes patience, teamwork and an open heart, but the growth you see in the children and in yourself, makes it all worth it. You’re not alone in this journey.”
