Back to School Davis and Elyn
As the kiddos are headed back to school, we’re excited to highlight our EMPOWER After School program! It’s a place where learning continues, confidence builds and kids can have fun as they grow beyond the classroom. We’d like to introduce you to Davis and Elyn, who recently shared their experiences at EMPOWER After School in New Bern, NC.
Davis is entering 8th grade and has been part of EMPOWER After School since kindergarten. His favorite part of the program is spending time outdoors, where he can wind down after the school day, play and connect with friends in a supportive environment. “EMPOWER has been one of the most supportive parts of Davis’ life,” says his mom, Teisha. “He’s made real progress toward his Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals thanks to the collaboration between EMPOWER, his teachers and specialists. His teacher told me how excited he is each afternoon to greet the EMPOWER team and how equally excited they are to see him. Knowing our son is surrounded by people who truly care and help him thrive is priceless!”
Elyn participates in both EMPOWER Summer Camp and EMPOWER After School. She loves all the friends she’s made over the years and also enjoys water activities, especially playing on the splash pad. One of her favorite memories was a glow dance party she attended with the program. “The EMPOWER team truly care for and love my Elyn,” says her mom. “She’s so happy being part of this wonderful program. It has been life-changing for our family to have peace of mind knowing Elyn is being cared for in a safe and inclusive place. It has really been a blessing!”
