May is Early Intervention Awareness Month in Virginia. Easterseals PORT Health’s Early Intervention services help families build the skills and confidence needed to support their child’s growth. Emily, Easterseals PORT Health’s (ESPH) Early Intervention Program Manager, is grateful for her team and the positive impacts they make on the lives of the children and families they support.

“Early Intervention Month gives me the opportunity to reflect on how proud I am of our team and the work we do,” Emily explains. “We offer families hope, reassurance and partnership as they begin their journey in early intervention.”
For the families supported by ESPH, early intervention also provides a sense of community. The families try to celebrate every progress milestone and remind each other that they are not alone in advocating for their child’s development. This type of community building is essential for helping families gain confidence in their ability to help their children thrive.
“The comradery among the ESPH’s Early Intervention team is what makes this work special,” Emily shares. “We show up for families with compassion and dedication. We also support one another. We collaborate, uplift each other and provide encouragement on tough days.”
This strong support system enhances the care provided to families, creating an environment built on trust and shared goals. Emily feels fortunate to work alongside professionals who genuinely care about the impact of early intervention. “Together, we make a difference. One child, one family, one moment at a time”.
