After school programs meet the needs of students and parents
Easterseals PORT Health’s EMPOWER programs provide developmentally-appropriate after school care for students living with disabilities. Our staff is trained to provide a safe and caring environment to help students build peer connections, learn new skills and participate in fun recreational activities.
Our EMPOWER After School Programs are open to school-aged children living with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). We offer participants the ability to interact with their peers, make new friends, participate in sports and join in craft activities and more. For parents, our After School programs provide peace of mind that their kids are having fun and learning new skills in a safe and supportive environment while they’re working, at school or taking a personal day.
For the locations we serve, we follow the local county’s public school schedule. We also provide extended care for children after a typical school day, including teacher workdays. A sample of a typical day’s schedule is shown below:
- 2:45PM to 5:30PM
- 12:30PM to 5:30PM (or early release schedule)
This program is an unique resource for families of children living with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. It is provided in partnership with Trillium Health Resources to address long-standing gaps in social and recreational activities in North Carolina.
EMPOWER means Engaging and Motivating People through Opportunities in Wellness, Education and Recreation.
We have partnered with Trillium Health Resources to bring the EMPOWER program to life.
