Z, EMPOWER Participant
Z’s journey with EMPOWER began when his preschool director referred Z to our EMPOWER program in preparation for Kindergarten. Lynn was initially worried about how Z would manage in a traditional after school setting because of his unique needs. However, EMPOWER quickly proved to be a safe and supportive space where Z could thrive. “The program was an answer to my prayers for Z to have a safe and comforting space after a full day of holding it together at school,” Lynn shared.
Z absolutely loves attending EMPOWER Afterschool and eagerly looks forward to it every day! Lynn says when Z has to miss a day for an appointment or holiday, he’s very disappointed and can’t wait to return. “The EMPOWER team put so much thought into the activities and resources which make it one of his favorite places to be!” she shared.
Thanks to the program’s dedicated team and thoughtful approach, Z has gained confidence, developed new skills and excels in areas where he’s able to truly shine. “Knowing my child is in a safe and accepting environment means more than words can express,” Lynn said.
Lynn says their six years with the EMPOWER Afterschool program has been a lifeline for their family. The program provides a nurturing space where Z feels valued and is embraced for who he is. “He isn’t made to feel ‘different’ or ‘impaired’ here. He is Z and they help bring out the very best in him,” she said. “We are very grateful for the EMPOWER Afterschool program!”
