Facility Based Crisis

Facilities to help stabilize individuals

Easterseals PORT Health operates three Facility Based Crisis (FBC) centers in eastern North Carolina. Facilities are staffed with trained medical and clinical professionals who help individuals stabilize and recover in a safe, supportive environment. Our FBC centers provide substance use and mental health crisis services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We believe in whole person care. With a focus on professionalism, compassion and winning outcomes, we help people create individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based best practices. Each individual is unique and receives treatment that leads toward stabilization and prevention of future crises.

Our FBCs provide support for individuals withdrawing from alcohol, drugs or experiencing a mental health crisis. Individuals are generally referred to us by:

  • Managed Care Organizations (MCOs).
  • Physicians offices.
  • Emergency departments.
  • Mental health and substance use providers.
  • Self-referrals within North Carolina.

FBCs are an alternative to hospitalization for adults who need mental health and substance use services. Our 24-hour, non-hospital medical centers provide support and crisis services in a community setting. The length of stay is typically 5 to 7 days, but really depends on each individual crisis and the best clinical care needed.

Easterseals PORT Health has 25 facility-based crisis beds available for scheduled or walk-in admissions. There are prescribers, tele-medicine and labs located onsite at each facility. Our FBCs deliver integrated treatment in an effective and seamless manner that includes:

  • Acute symptom management.
  • Early crisis stabilization.
  • Medication assisted treatment.
