Family Caregivers Month 2025
Rebecca and Sam

Rebecca and Sam

November is National Family Caregivers Month. This month we recognize and celebrate the incredible dedication and compassion that family caregivers show every day.

Rebecca is a Direct Service Provider and family caregiver to her son Sam, in Carteret County North Carolina. We recently sat down with Rebecca who shared insights on family caregiving.

Why is recognizing Family Caregivers Month important?
“As a parent of a deaf and autistic young adult, some days are more challenging than others. Caregivers are on duty 24/7. However, I know that on our bad days there are other parents experiencing the same things. I always remind myself that I am blessed in more ways than one.”

How has Easterseals PORT Health supported your caregiving journey?
“Oh my goodness, they’re only a phone call away! Whenever I need to just talk to our caseworker or run things by her, I can call and we talk about the strategies that might work best for Sam.”

What advice would you give to others caring for their loved one?
“Just remember you’re only one person. Take that break when you need it! This is a lifelong journey with your loved one who has a disability, so celebrate the good days.”

Rebecca’s story is a reminder of the strength, compassion and hope that define caregivers everywhere. This month and every month we celebrate the caregivers who give their all to support their loved ones. Thank you Rebecca for sharing your caregiving journey with us!
