Nurses Make a Difference!

National Nurses Day is observed each year on May 6 to recognize the dedication, compassion and impact of nurses in every healthcare setting. We are proud to celebrate this day by highlighting one of our exceptional nurses, Jay!

Jay serves as the Registered Nurse at Easterseals PORT Health’s Youth Crisis Therapeutic Home (YCTH) in Culpeper, VA where he provides care and support. He screens individuals for medical appropriateness, manages medication regimens, performs nursing assessments and provides health education and counseling to guests and their families. He also ensures each young person receives safe, personalized care during their time in the program.

For Jay, being a nurse is more than a profession, it’s a calling rooted in compassion. “Nurses dedicate themselves to caring for individuals when they are unable to care for themselves,” he shares. “We don’t do it for recognition, but it’s meaningful when the selflessness of the job is acknowledged.”

What makes his role at Easterseals PORT Health especially rewarding is the opportunity to support individuals with developmental disabilities. Easterseals PORT Health is committed to the IDEAL principles of Inclusive Culture, Different Voices, Embracing Potential, Authentic Self and Learning & Growing. Jay identifies strongly with Inclusive Culture, valuing the importance of being respectful and supportive of all people. “In today’s world, it’s easy to lose focus,” he says. “But I stay committed to what I believe is right and I continue to care.”

We’re grateful for nurses like Jay who bring skill, heart and dedication to every person they serve. Learn more about our Youth Crisis Therapeutic Home at eastersealsport.com/va-reach.
