Supporting individuals with medication
Easterseals PORT Health is a leader in providing Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) to individuals struggling with addiction. MAT is not simply replacing one drug with another. Instead, MAT directly targets and normalizes brain chemicals that are disrupted by substance use. It helps to regulate brain chemistry by blocking the euphoric effects and leads people toward a healthier state. In our clinics, MAT is supervised by health care providers to ensure people are less likely to misuse the medication. Methadone, buprenorphine, vivitrol and naltrexone are the most commonly prescribed medications to support recovery.
We believe Medication Assisted Treatment is most effective when it’s administered in conjunction with comprehensive therapeutic services. The combination of these two treatments leads to better outcomes, increased independence and greater success in integrating back into families and the community. Our comprehensive approach to recovery focuses on finding new meaning in life and a renewed sense of purpose so individuals and families can live better lives.
Medications used are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are clinically driven and tailored to meet individual needs. The ultimate goal is full recovery, including the ability to live a self-directed life. Our treatment approach has been shown to:
- Improve person’s quality of life and survival.
- Increase retention in treatment.
- Decrease illicit substance use and other criminal activity.
- Increase person’s ability to gain and maintain employment.
- Improve birth outcomes among pregnant women who have substance use disorders.
