The Joy of Music

March is Music in Our Schools Month! It’s a celebration of the many positive benefits that music offers to children. Music enhances children’s language, problem-solving and social skills. Easterseals PORT Health’s Busy Beats Music Group recognizes this and provides kids with enjoyable opportunities to learn through music.

Busy Beats Music Group is designed to promote skill-building through music, dancing, singing and playing instruments. Each session includes structured activities with specific goals aimed at developing various skills while also allowing children to explore their musical interests.

Rosalind and her parents, Kennette and Timothy, recently shared how Busy Beats has positively impacted their lives.

“Rosalind has improved a lot through the Busy Beats Music Group,” her parents shared. “She follows directions better, adapts well and participates more in group activities. Rosalind has always been fascinated by music. She memorizes lyrics and melodies easily, which makes her learning enjoyable. Busy Beats’ songs and activities have provided us with strategies to help Rosalind when she becomes overstimulated. We attribute her rapid speech development to the program and Ms. Hope, the program’s director.”

In addition to supporting children’s development, Busy Beats also provides resources for parents and guardians. Parents attend classes alongside their children and receive handouts containing ideas for songs and activities they can use at home.

When asked what she enjoys most about Busy Beats Music Group, Rosalind said she loves blowing bubbles during the song “Tiny Tim” and doing the parachute activity. She also loves socializing and making memories with her friends and Ms. Hope.
