Opioid Treatment Program

Recovery with Therapy and Methadone Treatment

For those who struggle with addiction, Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) is a highly effective tool that can help make recovery possible. Methadone is an FDA-approved medication that has been used for more than 50 years to treat individuals diagnosed with an Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). Methadone maintenance is one of the tools used to assist people in achieving recovery.

Easterseals PORT Health is a leader in providing treatment for OUD. Our program provides methadone maintenance treatment to help people reduce and ultimately end the use of illicit opioids.

Our primary goal is to assist people in developing the skills necessary to maintain a productive lifestyle without the use of mood-altering substances. We believe everyone is worthy of being treated with dignity and respect. We offer a non-judgmental approach in a culturally diverse and supportive treatment environment.

Methadone is a medication prescribed for the treatment of opioid use disorders (OUD). It provides individuals with the opportunity to make important life changes conducive to long-term recovery. By minimizing cravings and withdrawal symptoms, methadone maintenance treatment is effective in:

  • Making it possible for individuals to function, gain and maintain employment.
  • Assisting individuals to participate in other forms of treatment and/or recovery support.
  • Helping individuals cope with and overcome their substance use over time.

Methadone is most effective when coupled with comprehensive counseling and behavioral therapies. This combination of treatment leads to improved outcomes. Our approach focuses on treating the “whole person”. We help people find meaning and purpose while they recognize their personal potential and work toward achieving their goals.

When taken as prescribed, methadone is a safe and effective medication that can be continued for months, years or indefinitely as long as it continues to be beneficial.

What is methadone?

Methadone is a Schedule II controlled medication used to treat Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). It is an FDA-approved medication that has been used for more than 50 years to treat individuals diagnosed with OUD. It is a long acting full opioid agonist that eliminates withdrawal symptoms, blocks the euphoric effects of opioids and relieves drug cravings by acting on opioid receptors in the brain. Patients taking methadone for the treatment of opioid use disorder receive medication under the supervision of a practitioner through specialized opioid treatment programs certified through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
