A new summer camp is opening at the Summer Moore Center in Greenville, NC. as an expansion of the EMPOWER Afterschool and Summer Camp programs.
Easterseals PORT Health, in partnership with Trillium Health Resources, is excited to announce the opening of this inclusive camp that serves campers with special needs and their siblings. The Summer Moore Center, formerly the Summer Moore Child Development Center, has been directly connected to the community since it opened in 1992. The original space was renovated to ensure it was accessible and could serve children and families with all abilities during summer camp and afterschool care.
Beginning June 14, 2021 and running each weekday through August, our EMPOWER summer camp will serve children preschool age 3 through 5th grade with opportunity to expand our ages in the future. Our camp will offer full days of fun activities that include trips to the local splash park, taking nature hikes, learning yoga, going bowling, creating art, enjoying music and movement with the East Carolina School of Music, rhythmic drumming and enjoying playground time – all supervised in a fun and safe environment for each of our campers! Our standard staff to camper ratio is 1:3 and we can also provide a 1:1 ratio when needed.
The EMPOWER Summer Camp will run until August, when children return to school in Pitt County. At that time, our EMPOWER Afterschool program will begin for children that need care beyond a typical school day.
Easterseals PORT Health is committed to serving families in many areas including Pitt County. Our goal is to nurture social connections and cultivate a community of acceptance for all children and young individuals. In addition to camps, we offer foster care, community living services, in-home skill building, respite care, employment services and residential programs in Pitt County.
