Summer Fun, Engagement and Development
Summer starts on June 21 this year and Easterseals PORT Health’s EMPOWER Summer Camp is ready for another session of fun in the sun. Jason and his mom Chaniece, couldn’t wait to share their summer camp experiences.
Jason, EMPOWER Summer Camp Participant
This will be Jason’s third summer participating in EMPOWER Summer Camp. “Camp provides Jason a wonderful opportunity to join a community that values socialization, structure and inclusivity,” says Chaniece. “He loves being around other children, engaging in group activities and feeling a genuine sense of belonging. It’s amazing to see him thrive while playing with friends and enjoying EMPOWER’s welcoming atmosphere.”
EMPOWER stands for Engaging and Motivating People through Opportunities in Wellness, Education and Recreation. Funded by Trillium Health Resources, EMPOWER Summer Camp creates an environment for children with developmental disabilities and their siblings to learn and grow while having fun.
Chaniece enthusiastically shared the positive transformation she’s seen in Jason since he’s been going to camp. “EMPOWER Camp enhances his sense of belonging and independence while providing opportunities to develop social and emotional skills in a nurturing environment. I’ve seen a remarkable improvement in Jason’s communication skills, confidence and social-emotional development. He’s become more verbal, more engaged with his peers and increasingly more comfortable participating in group activities.”
As a parent, Chaniece deeply appreciates the dedication and care shown by the EMPOWER Summer Camp team. “They’ve created a space that promotes enrichment and positive peer interaction. It’s definitely a place where Jason feels truly accepted and ’empowered’ to succeed,” she shares. “I’m incredibly grateful for the profound impact EMPOWER has had on his growth and overall confidence.”
