Virginia Regional Education Assessment Crisis Services Habilitation
VA REACH is Virginia’s statewide, regionally-based crisis system that meets the needs of individuals living with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and experiencing crisis events that put them at risk for homelessness, incarceration, hospitalization and/or being a danger to themselves or others. REACH offers an additional layer of support to emergency services, the state hospital system and caregivers who work closely with IDD individuals.
VA REACH/Northern Region is a comprehensive behavioral health program designed to help people with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD) who are experiencing a crisis. The REACH team provides higher levels of service to these at-risk individuals with services such as mobile crisis response, mobile crisis stabilization and crisis residential programming.
VA REACH believes individuals with developmental disabilities should be supported with services that allow them to live the most inclusive life possible in their community. This includes access to appropriate and effective crisis stabilization, intervention and prevention services, all which could include mental health treatment services.
We serve children and adults with co-occurring diagnoses of developmental disability and behavioral health needs. We enhance local capacity and provide collaborative, cost-effective support to individuals and their families through:
- Access and links to additional supports
- Education
- Exemplary clinical services
- Mentoring and training
- Short-term crisis and transitional housing
REACH also works alongside 988 (the national suicide and crisis lifeline) to help provide timely responses to families and providers. In addition, we provide comprehensive crisis assessments, safety planning, and resource collaboration to help individuals post-crisis. We also support the community and provide routine clinical and behavioral trainings to providers and families across Virginia. Sessions include crisis intervention training, monthly community series trainings and program outreach.
