Embracing Compassion: The Vital Role of Caregivers
A caregiver is an individual who provides essential care and support to those who oftentimes can’t care for themselves because of disabilities, injuries and aging. They compassionately assist others with daily living activities and medical needs.

National Caregivers Day, observed on February 20, honors the vital role that caregivers provide to people each and every day. Easterseals PORT Health is proud to highlight two of our team members, Tammy and Diane, as their supervisors share the positive impact they make!
Diane is a Lead DSP with our Mental Health Group Home in Lenoir, NC. Shan, her Residential Regional Manager, shares, “Diane is a very dedicated and hardworking team member who really cares about the individuals she supports! She started out as a DSP staff member and has earned the well-deserved promotion to Team Lead. She makes such a positive impact in the lives of the people she supports.”
Tammy is a Direct Service Provider (DSP) with our Individual + Community Services (ICS) in Charlotte, NC. Lisa, her Program Supervisor, shares, “Tammy is one of the best! She works with three ICS individuals and always goes above and beyond to assist them in living their best lives. She makes sure their health and safety is priority, coordinates fun activities and outings, teaches them important skills through their goals and Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and maintains good routines for them. I truly appreciate her and all that she does!”
