Down Syndrome Awareness Month is a time to celebrate the abilities, achievements and unique perspectives of individuals with Down Syndrome while also raising awareness and fostering inclusion in our communities. To recognize and celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month, we’re shining a spotlight on some amazing members of our EMPOWER Ahoskie, NC program.

Hope, Marshall and Brittany attend EMPOWER programs and shared what they like about it, what brings them joy and what they would want others to know about Down Syndrome.
Hope enjoys coming to EMPOWER to see her friends and connect with staff. Her boyfriend Mike makes her happy! She hopes others understand that people with Down Syndrome are kind and deserving of support.
Marshall enjoys his internships, helping with cleaning and working on the sensAble Snacks Food Truck. Spending time with his mom and receiving love from others brings him joy. He wants people to know that individuals with Down Syndrome have great friends and that he has a girlfriend.
Brittany loves being part of EMPOWER and appreciates all the staff. Spending time with her friends brings her happiness every day! Brittany wants people to know that individuals with Down Syndrome are brave.
